PCR UK Ltd launches a ‘Hub & Spoke’ parts distribution model

The customer:

Peugeot Citroën Retail (PCR) UK Limited has 45 dealerships across the UK & Ireland.

The challenge:

Peugeot Citroën Retail (PCR) UK Limited recently consolidated their Peugeot and Citroën parts operations. As part of this change, they wanted to move to a `Hub and Spoke’ distribution process capable of supporting multiple daily deliveries to their sites. This would help improve service levels, reduce individual site stock holding and obsolescence.

The Solution:

With the help of ‘Advanced Parts’ and ‘WMS’, which integrate seamlessly with the Autoline Dealer Management System, PCR were able to achieve their goal by centralising and automating their order processing and stock management. The solutions from CDK manage their entire hub and spoke distribution and warehouse process and allow them to use wireless barcode scanners for goods-in, goods-out, and stock-check.

The Results:

Increased capacity with faster turnaround of overnight deliveries
Katie-Niamh Robson, Parts Plaque Manager of West Midlands Parts Distribution Centre comments, “We can now take on as many new delivery points as the company can throw at us due to the speed that the team are able to receipt, cross dock and complete the 5:00am delivery using scanners. The parts team no longer have to open every box, count all parts, and check them off. The scanners allow them to pick, pack and despatch orders much faster. The drivers start work an hour later as a result of the time savings. However, our customer deliveries begin half an hour earlier as the drivers no longer need to print invoices and trip sheets or double check orders going on the van.”

Improved productivity with automated and centralised processes
Robson highlights the improvements in collating customer backorders and generating purchase orders for the suppliers. “All orders received are automatically added to the central order list which constantly refreshes. Previously, our two office staff took the printed sales orders, sorted and prioritised them and entered them onto the system. They would have to trawl through lots of paperwork to create the relevant purchase orders. Now, it’s all completed with a click of a mouse from the sales order screen.”

Reduced stock and increased deliveries – objective achieved
In response to how Advanced Parts and WMS has impacted the individual dealer locations, Robson concludes,“our sites are now holding less stock as they are confident that their orders are being processed and delivered quickly. One of our dealers has reduced their stockholding by over 30% since the implementation. It is a great system in all aspects. I particularly like the warehouse statistics reports and first pick analysis and send them to Peugeot Citroën (PSA) every month”.
